| How To ..... Create your own Podshow |

| Record Your Show |
Once you've decided what you are going to do your show about (scripting and idea boarding comes to mind here), you next need to record it. You could use the windows in-built recorder, but it doesn't record in MP3 format, or you could use the super duper free recording and editing software that most of us podcasters use, namely AUDACITY. Its available free for Windows, MAC and LINUX operating systems (we use Windows and the UBUNTU or EDUBUNTU versions of Linux {its the easiest version of FREE linux that we've come across, and we mean it is easy to use}). |

| FREE Music | Podcasters can get music tracks for FREE from the PodShow.com, but you'll need at least a website and basic feed in place to register (just create a webpage a voice file announcing that your show is coming and create a feed, if you register with BTPodshow.com you won't need to bother with all that). | music.podshow.com |
| FREE Hosting and Creating your Website | You will need some WEBSPACE to host your show from, we'd recommend BTPodshow.com as they take care of all the fiddly bits below, but if you're determined to go it alone, then you'll need to find a free provider that will handle MP3 files, BEWARE not all hosting services handle MP3 files, we've been caught with this one ourselves in the past. Once you've got your webspace, you need to UPLOAD your MP3 file and produce a web page, some services will provide online facilities to do this. Otherwise you'll need an HTML editor and FTP uploading software (there's plenty out there, we now use the COMPOSER bit of SeaMonkey, we have in the past used NVU html editor amongst others and Filezilla ftp uploading software (all available free). | BTPodshow.com (complete free service) SeaMonkey NVU html editor Filezilla ftp uploading software |
| Create the XML or RSS file | Once you have created your MP3 sound file, you need to create the feed file that will tell your users that your new show or episode is available and where to download it. This can be quite complicated if you're not used to website production, so some other solution like BTPodshow might be better. Before we moved to BTPodshow we used Podifier (there are many other free solutions out there some more complex than others, this one was relatively easy to use). | Podifier |
| Monitoring Usage of your feed and other Valuable services | Before we moved to BTPodshow we used FEEDBURNER to ensure our RSS file was in the best format to meet the needs of all our users downloading software. It also provided various other Value Added Services like monitoring how many people were downloading our shows, what country they lived in what browser/software they were using to download our shows, and loads of other useful stuff. There's also loads of useful advice on this podcasting thingy on their website. Also check out iTunes website, however that is a bit technogeeky, we found bits of it difficult to understand. | Feedburner iTunes |
